Brad Nugent selects current and recollected visual and emotional elements from his experience and observations and fabricates compositionally specific presentations employing those elements. Purposive painting and material choices underly the individuality of a composition or a focused run of works. The results are comments about the artist's visually realized emotional rhythms, compositional structures, relationships and formalities. Specific combinations of content are considered to accomplish a particular poetry.

 

    As is often the case, the production of these works can come quickly or may go long stretches focused on a specific path. Realization of these works is similar to hiking a trail and following tributaries that peel off into previously unexplored areas. Even traveling the same paths surprise with something unnoticed, or perceptions not realized before. Executing as intended in the fabricating process, concerning those discoveries, is the juice.

 

    What viewers take away from these results is dependent on the their experiences and perceptions. When specifically relevant, written narratives are provided for groupings of works and on an individual case by case. In the broadest sense, the artist considers this evolving catalog to be as the content of books and their various components. Or music, in its different iterations. At best, a general statement is merely a marker stating “start here”.
